As you may already have a website and you will know the importance of traffic. Traffic is to internet marketing as location is to real estate that is the crunch, TRAFFIC if you don’t have that; you will not have any visitors to your website and that means no sales.
Mainly the creator of the website is the person that is driving to the website. The top ingredient in getting traffic is the search engine. Obviously you can use advertising such as video, newspaper, banners etc but its going to be costly, using search engines to get targeted traffic it is the least expensive method of advertising.
There are many website owners out there that do not understand the importance in search engines popularity, which gets you traffic and serious amount of it. The one thing what has importance is producing a good looking website; I’m not saying it is bad, but it is important for search engine placement. The following mistakes that most website owners out there are making I’m going to put down now for you, so you can avoid and go the right way and generate some serious targeted traffic to your site, that’s what your after isn’t it so lets get started.
- Not using the correct keywords
This is very important choosing the right keywords is crucial to generating traffic, by choosing the right keywords and potential customers will get to your site much quicker. If you use the wrong keywords your site will receive very little traffic, not even that.
- Duplicate keywords
If your using keyword more than once and their duplicated over and over again, this is also known as (keyword stacking) the search engines just miss the site or the page, so that is bad for search engines.
- Robbing WebPages from other sites
You may have come across this before, ‘its only the internet, its ok, no one will know’ stealing content, icons and information, no don’t even think about it, that is one thing you want to stay away from others who have continually copying others work which is not search engine friendly at all. Search engines are very smart in that sense they can detect duplicated content when its going around, they have the power to stop you from being listed with them, so just keep that it mind.
- Keywords that are not related to your website
There are many website owners out there who try to get their site seen by search engines, by inserting keywords that are irrelevant to their website. You will get owners that are inserting keywords that are so popular such as ”sex” or some famous celebrity, and hot topics of the day etc. The keywords do not have anything to do with the page topic. As the keyword is popular, owners think that it will super charge they traffic to the top. This is called spam by the search engines, this may cause the site to be removed completely from the search engines.
- Keyword stuffing
This is similar to keyword stacking which I mentioned earlier, it means duplicated keywords to a graphic, layer or description on your website by using the “alt=” HTML parameter. If the search engines catch you with the text that does not relate to your description, graphic or layer they will consider it as spam.
- Hidden texts
It might come across your mind that “if I hide my text so you cant see it” it will get me up in search engines, no wrong, do not try to hide your keyword phrases in your text by making them invisible. You will have some website owners out there that will change the colour of the text to the same colour of their text try to make it invisible (bad idea)
- Relying on tiny texts
This is another way of hiding text just like the above hiding your text in your background, don’t try to hide your keywords and keyword phrases by shrinking them so small that you cant see them, its not going to help.
- All search engines are the same, NO!
Many people take it that all search engines use the same rules, no it doesn’t work like that, each search engine have their own set of rules, they can change when their desire. So the best thing to do is, get the hang of the major search engine rules, you will get friendly with the rest.
- Using Free Web Hosting
A big advice, do not use free website hosting, if your serious about generating some a lot of traffic to your website, then do not use free hosting, it will throw you of search engines that is a bad idea.
- Not checking for missing web page elements.
Make sure you check your website for missing graphics, links etc, that will complete your website in detail, there are site out there that can do that for you free of charge.
These are few tips given that you should avoid, do not get that temptation to try them and try to get traffic, because it will cause some serious damage for you, it may prevent you from getting listed by search engines.
You wont just be wasting time working on your website, and get yourself thrown off which is not good, so just invest a little more time learn your way through the right way and generate traffic to your website with less hassle.
